SMAS
SMAS is a proud member of the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) Forum.
Since the launch of SSIP, many Clients and Principal Contractors now adopt an SSIP approach to H&S pre-qualification and will only use contractors who hold a valid and in date Scheme certificate issued by an SSIP Member Scheme. Holding a valid SSIP Member Scheme certificate means that a contractor has demonstrated their capability by meeting the SSIP ‘core criteria’. A key aim of the SSIP Forum is to reduce the burden and cost of H&S bureaucracy across the construction industry and as part of this, your SMAS Worksafe certificate will be recognised by the other SSIP members who offer mutual recognition – meaning that you should not have to complete a further full H&S assessment with them.

Trust
Mark
TrustMark is a quality mark which operates a framework under which 30 plus scheme operators work in the RMI (repair, maintenance and improvement) sector, including trade associations, local government trading standards teams, and independent scheme operators. These schemes are approved to carry the TrustMark logo and recruit reputable and trustworthy tradesmen. This enables the TrustMark scheme operators to promote improved RMI sector standards and tackle related issues such as better enforcement. All these scheme operators are audited annually by TrustMark, to ensure processes, standards and complaint procedures are being maintained.

Checkatrade
All Checkatrade members are thoroughly vetted before they are displayed on our website. Over the years our vetting requirements have been improved and adapted to keep up with government legislation and current laws as well to keep up with our own continuously raising standards. On each of our members’ pages you will be able to see exactly which checks have been carried out and passed.

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme
Each month thousands of contractors and consultants (suppliers) apply for work with public and private sector organisations (buyers). To win work, they must meet the buyer’s health and safety standards. Assessing suppliers' health and safety competence is usually a lengthy and time-consuming process. Suppliers can sometimes meet one buyer’s Health and Safety standards but not another. Being CHAS approved reduces duplication as suppliers' compliance is accepted by all CHAS buyers.
